Baja California and the Sea of Cortez, Mexico
Mexico's Sea of Cortez
is one of the best places in the world to see and photograph whales
In January 1914, a photography expedition with Lindblad Expeditions
on board the National Geographic Sea Bird
explored remote islands along the Baja Peninsula
, including Espiritú Santo
and Loreto Bay National Parks
. The trip began with a photo workshop at Ranch Las Cruces
, an exclusive resort and famous hideaway for Hollywood stars.
The photo staff for the workshop and voyage included National Geographic photographer
, Flip Nicklin
, and our good friends from B&H Photo
, David Brommer
and Gabe Biderman
, who brought along an amazing assortment of digital cameras and accessories for all of us to try.
Out on the water we encountered groups of dolphins
, humpback whales
, and swam with California sea lions
at Los Islotes. During the voyage a full moon graced the Sonoran Desert scenery along the mountainous spice of the Sierra de la Giganta.
