Baja California and the Sea of Cortez, MexicoMexico's
Sea of Cortez is one of the best places in the world to see and photograph
whales and
dolphins.
In January 1914, a photography expedition with
Lindblad Expeditions on board the
National Geographic Sea Bird explored remote islands along the
Baja Peninsula, including
Espiritú Santo and
Loreto Bay National Parks. The trip began with a photo workshop at
Ranch Las Cruces, an exclusive resort and famous hideaway for Hollywood stars.
The photo staff for the workshop and voyage included
National Geographic photographer,
Flip Nicklin, and our good friends from
B&H Photo,
David Brommer and
Gabe Biderman, who brought along an amazing assortment of digital cameras and accessories for all of us to try.
Out on the water we encountered groups of
dolphins,
humpback whales, and swam with
California sea lions at Los Islotes. During the voyage a full moon graced the Sonoran Desert scenery along the mountainous spice of the Sierra de la Giganta.
